Our Founder – “Indy” Rankins
Dr. Indigo “Indy” Rankins, a renowned data analyst with an uncanny knack for finding himself amid ridiculous administration tasks, holds prestigious degrees in Education, Mathematics, and Engineering from top-ranked institutions worldwide. Often seen in a leather jacket and jeans instead of tweed and khakis, Dr. Jenkins’ adventures aren’t limited to the classroom or the lab—they’ve taken him deep into the uncharted territories of institutional spreadsheets and line charts, where he skillfully navigates pitfalls of bureaucracy and the labyrinthine passages of “why did our ranking drop?” Armed with nothing but a Python IDE, database logins, and sheer determination, Indy has unearthed absurd patterns in data that rival the discoveries of snakes in ancient tombs. When he’s not unraveling mysteries of higher education’s most perplexing obsessions, he can be found in the office, debating the philosophical implications of improbable methodologies and braving the perils of video conferences with 50+ attendees. Legend has it that he once escaped a seemingly impossible deadline by claiming it would take weeks, then ran a script he had for months in under three minutes and drank coffee for the next few hours before delivering on the ask—a feat his colleagues still speak of in hushed tones.

FAQs
Why did we create The Rankings Report?
The Rankings Report was the brainchild of a group of university institutional research professionals. Year after year, we were subjected to the scrutiny of our administrators and boards to explain “what happened?!” Through countless hours of analysis and what-if scenarios, we wanted to share this wisdom and commentary with the world!
And, of course, the rankings change every single year — so there’s a never-ending supply of absurdity.
Aaand we can finally stop saying, “Oh yeah, we should totally do that!”
Is The Rankings Report associated with any publisher?
Absolutely not! The analysis and opinions contained within this site are from our professional experience with these rankings for many years. If rankings publishers want to influence our content, they may use the contact-us button just like anyone else. But they should be aware, the email may be posted precisely as it is written. 😉
Why do universities get so wrapped up in chasing rankings?
Because they exist? The eternal question. It doesn’t make sense, but it’s a fact of academia.
