In the first annual US WikiRanklings, we’ll look at the top (until we get tired of counting) universities. As we all know, students and parents alike use Wikipedia for their facts. Why not assume they use Wikipedia for the same purpose when finding a university to send the kids to? Therefore, we present the top whatever rankled universities based on Wikipedia. Methodology
Search Wikipedia for articles with the word university in the name and sort by relevance Scroll through manually and record the order of each US institution. Yeah, that’s it.
While we do not know how Wikipedia determines “relevance” or what it means, but that doesn’t stop us from rankling institutions based on metrics that sound good. It is up to the institutions to determine how to improve their relevance, whatever that means. If anyone figures the Wiki algorithm out, let us know (so we can change the rankling metric).
